So, the holidays are a huge time for engagements- and maybe you are one of the lucky ones who received one of these beauties. Now, it’s time to be getting back to work and out and about to be sharing the good news and showing off your new piece. We’ve asked our Cos Bar resident beauty expert, Kori Mahoney for her favorite products and advice on keeping your hands and nails show off ready as the temps have finally dropped!

For starters, using a coarse hand scrub (like the Cle de Peau Beaute body exfoliator or La Mer Body Refiner available here) to smooth the skin and get rid of any flakiness followed with a nice, non-greasy hand cream. There are so many hand cream options available, so it’s really up to you as far as what you like in terms of texture and fragrance.

Look for those containing anti-aging benefits such as Vitamin C or sunscreen (even in winter months)! Kori recommends hand cream by Omorovicza and Rich Girl Broad Spectrum by Deborah Lippmann. Reapplying throughout the day, especially after hand washing is key. Sleeping in cotton gloves while wearing hand cream underneath can soothe severely dry skin.

Don’t forget the nails! A manicure is where your personality can really shine through. We recommend a classic pale pink (such as Essie’s “Ballet Slippers”) for your wedding day, but you might choose a chic red nail for the early days of engagement (I LOVE the name of this Bobbi Brown- Scotch on the Rocks!). Have fun with it and remember that your hands will be in many of your wedding day shots. Have your nails done professionally for your special day and make sure to take your color and a fresh topcoat along with you in case of an accidental chip.

Leslie Moore

Today we are getting the inside scoop from our beauty expert and Bridal Make Up Pro, Leslie Moore.. on her favorite products, and tips for stepping up your pre wedding beauty routine.  All of her tips are below along with links to buy everything she raves about.

Exfoliator Collage

1.Dermalogica  2. Laura Mercier 3. Clairsonic

I always start with skin. Flawless skin is always in, no matter the season. It’s one thing I am known for-complexion.Coming off of the summer season skin is CONGESTED. Sweat, sun, beach, spf, and pool (not too mention too many margaritas)-has our skin paying the price. I would recommend picking up on the exfoliation. You can gently exfoliate every day. A more aggressive exfoliator roughly 3 days a week. I like Dermalogica Daily Microfoilant for everyday and Laura Mercier’s Face Polish every other day. A Clairsonic is also your friend.

Sapelo Skin Care

Sapelo, a skin care line on my radar now for not only is beautiful packaging and all natural ingredients but for the results it produces. Their 3 step system- renewing, rejuvenating, and softening is a great routine for brides to start as soon as they get engaged, it will get you glowing in time to walk down the aisle!

I also suggest my gals to do a mask the night before or the morning of the wedding. My hands down fav is the Boscia Brightening Hydrogel Mask. This will leave skin smooth, firm, hydrated, and simply glowing. I can always tell when we use these and when we don’t.

_10838832Tom Ford

Skin prep is always as important as the products we use for foundation, color, etc.I am obsessed with Tom Ford’s Complexion Enhancing Primer. It’s amazing and prepares the skin for any type of foundation I choose to use.

The biggest trend I am seeing is the amount of “spa” services brides are having. From facials, to botox, to lash extentions.  They start as soon as they get engaged. My favorite med spa service is a derma plane or micro blading. It is a service that entails the use of a medical grade scalpel. It is very effective in removing dead skin and tiny fine facial hair. It is not like shaving and the hair does not grow back like a beard. It leaves your face as smooth as a baby’s and can really make an impact on how make up goes on the skin.

Powder Collage

1. Temptu Pro  2. Laura Mercier

As far as correcting those summer tan lines- which we do see occasionally. I would recommend using an airbrush technique. I professionally prefer Kett Cosmetics, but Temptu Pro makes an airbrush system available for consumers that works great as well. They have a wide shade range. Long wear and transfer resistant making them ideal for anything from tan lines to tattoo coverage. You want to always set your work. My go-to is Laura Mercier’s Translucent Powder.

I’m so exited to have Jessica Morse of Bare Beauty giving us bridal beauty advice today! So many invaluable morsels of information, so thank you Jessica!

Many people ask me which products they should use to look their best for a big event.  To be honest, no cosmetic will do more for you than eating Clean, drinking enough water (half of your bodyweight in ounces), getting plenty of sleep and exercising.  If you’ve got all of that covered, and you want to kick it up a notch, (and I’m sure that’s why you’re reading this) I do have a few more tricks up my sleeve.  These tips won’t just make you look gorgeous, they will also improve your health.  It’s a win-win – that’s what Clean Beauty is all about!

Bare Beauty

Take a Pursoma Resurrection Bath once a week in the month leading up to your big day.  These aren’t just any epsom salt baths.  Sea salt stimulates circulation and detoxifies, while Montmorillonite clay’s negative charge helps to attract unhealthy, positively charged radiation that accumulates in the body.  Soothing Spirulina and Laminar soften and hydrate skin.  Not to mention the fact that a hot bath after a long day will melt guest-list stress away faster than you can say “my fiancé’s second cousin”.

Use Pacific by True Nature Botanicals Exfoliating Moisture Mask once or twice a week, leaving it on 2-5 minutes.  This mask uses lactic acid, a gentle Alpha Hydroxy Acid, to exfoliate skin without stripping away any moisture.  Your complexion will be left glowy, soft and supple.  Suitable for all skin types.

The Hydrea London Dry Brush will banish dry, dull skin, cellulite, stimulate circulation, detoxify the body and improve energy levels – for real.  When I dry-brush consistently, my skin looks ten years younger.  All you have to do is use it for five minutes every day before you hit the shower.  For a quick how-to, check out my blog post on dry-brushing.

Bare Beauty

On the big day, you won’t have a ton of time to constantly touch up your makeup.  It’s important to choose cosmetics that will wear well, but feel good, too.  If you drank too much champagne at your rehearsal dinner, the next morning, finish your shower with a 30-second blast of freezing cold water.  It will stimulate circulation and eliminate any puffiness.

Treat Collection Nail Polish in Wedding Day is the palest sheer pink. Their polishes wear beautifully; my manicure usually lasts more than a week – no chips – with their polish.  Treat Collection is also 5-Free, meaning that their formula is free of the five most dangerous chemicals that are present in many conventional nail polish formulas (Formaldehyde, Formaldehyde resin, Toluene, Dibutyl Phthalate and Camphor).

Axiology Lipstick in Philosophy is the most gorgeous, neutral pink with the perfect sheen.  Axiology lipsticks wear so well, and they will never, ever dry out your lips.  Their formulas are packed with plant-based organic oils and butters, natural mineral pigments, and they contain no synthetics, parabens or petrochemicals.

False eyelashes are a must on your wedding day  No other lash product – from topical growth drugs to professional extensions – will make your eyes pop like good, ol’ fashion falsies.  Winks by Georgie Faux Lashes are my favorite; they look so real, and their adhesive is nontoxic (no formaldehyde, phthalates or parabens) and cruelty-free.

Bare Beauty

No matter where you choose to honeymoon, it is all about easy, relaxed beauty at this stage.  You won’t need much in the way of cosmetics, as you’ll have a natural glow going on.  A friendly word of advice: there isn’t much that can totally ruin a honeymoon, but a bad sunburn is at the top of the list.

Suntegrity Sunscreen for Body SPF 30 is my favorite nontoxic sunscreen.  Without the use of parabens, phthalates, propylene glycol, mineral oil, synthetic dyes, sulfates, nanoparticles or chemical UV absorbers, Suntegrity protects your skin from the sun, absorbs quickly and never feels greasy.

I simply cannot travel without RMS Beauty Ultimate Makeup Remover Wipes.  After a long night, they take off every last trace of makeup while moisturizing and conditioning the skin with pure, organic coconut oil.  If you’re going to be a lazy face washer, do it with these!

The warm pearl color and creamy consistency of Kjaer Weis Radiance Highlighter makes bone structure pop.  Easily mixed with eyeshadow and lip gloss, this formula is one of my secret weapons that I rarely leave home without.  The gorgeous compact is refillable and Kjaer Weis never uses any synthetics, petroleums or parabens.
