We have returned from New York and our rehearsal dinner was a big success- it was a BBQ theme, so of course, they had to bring in the Southerners to throw a real shindig.  I hope to have photos for next week’s post.

In the meantime, here are some fun reads I’d like to share.  From this month’s InStyle:

I loved seeing the “inside files” from Kelly Wearstler- can’t get enough of her darn it, and shouldn’t we be past this by now?

vera-wang

Of course, being in the wedding biz you have to know all things Vera… But, I really appreciated her comment about what she thinks is the biggest change in fashion to date.  I have been watching “Boardwalk Empire” and was just lamenting last night about how beautiful and elegant the ladies were and the men with suits and bowties and boutonierres everyday. I wish we still had the desire to dress up on a daily basis.

Something For the Kiddies…

Check out this story we contributed to on Aisledash.com about children’s attire at weddings.

We’re excited about a new blog launch- Bump Smitten that features tips and stylish real baby showers.  They featured the baby shower for Baby K that we did for our past bride, Lee Kleinhelter.

Arne C. Wasmuth:
“Filming Lindgren  – the challenges of putting a literary life on screen”

Tuesday 21 September 2010

“Mankind is preoccupied with two great things: death and love; these catch the interest of all ages. You shouldn’t scare children to the point of anxiety, but just like adults they need to be moved by art.” Astrid Lindgren (Sweden, 1997-2002).

21

Astrid Lindgren is one of the world’s most-translated writers.  Screenwriter and author of  children’s books including the Pippi Longstocking, Kalle Blomquist and  Emil of Lönneberga series,  she conjured up a fantasy world in which children run riot and adult authority is gleefully confronted or ignored. An unabashedly political figure in her lifetime, Lindgren’s work has most recently inspired Stieg Larsson’s bestseller Dragon Tattoo trilogy.

Arne Cornelius Wasmuth is the German-born and U.S./UK-educated owner of Lighthouse Productions GmBH, a German film and TV production company. His latest project is a biographical film about Astrid Lindgren.  Wasmuth will talk about the challenges of filming the life of this literary legend.

The Charleston Library Society would like to thank The Bagel Shop for catering for this event.

We’re off to New York City this week to do a rehearsal dinner for our client, so tune in next week for photos from the big event.

Tara’s Tidbits

week one over for weight watchers!! horray…made it and lost 3 + pounds! going to do another week. Exercised five days…I am in the mental throws now. I encourage all to try it! I love it and I can still drink too.

Tonight making steamed spinach and pork chops with  a quick mustard sauce (use whole grain /dijon mustard and non fat plain yogart, mix) and put on top, once out of the oven. Yummy and very healthy.  Trying to be more like Kate over here.

Ceiling in the office finished…will share photo tomorrow after I move back in. Girls in front office ready for me to move out..I have been a bother. :) love it.  have to run by grocery store and home to feed children…will talk tomorrow.

As we gear up for our Darkness to Light Gala (November 18th)…it is stories like the one below that make it even more special for us. One night over drinks, Del Dell, as we call her, was talking about her painting…I wanted to see and asked if she would be interested in donating a piece to darkness to light..
I found her work meaningful, inspirational and beautiful. It comes right from her heart and you can see it in each piece.
After talking, she shared this story and now we will even incorporate her series into our invitation design. I am very excited about that. I am glad that in my work that we can even highlight those who should be.
“These paintings represent a very recent storm in my life. I had suffered three massive losses in my life all within a 13 month period. The Lord gave me the idea to paint a storm scene without realizing that I was in one until I started painting them. As I worked on them and the hours passed, I had no idea why I was painting them or that they would be used to hopefully help someone else. I trusted that God had a purpose for me painting them. While in the mountains about a month ago, Tara came to look at the paintings and wanted to use them for the Darkness to Light party. Each time I worked on them, I felt a bit more peace. The title of the pieces is “The Storm, Beginning to a new Beginning”. What came out of it was not only healing but the realization, once again, that we are never alone in our storms; know matter how dark it may seem hope can abound even in the dark.”

September 15th, 2010

well, I started weight watchers monday! I plane on doing it for 2 weeks (14 days!).  I have to finally loose those 5 pounds that never left after last year’s baby. I tried this method before and I have to say, I believe in it and it works. They should hire me to be a spokes person for them! ha!
I had a busy day at the office so will not be able to say much, believe it or not, have to work over here!
But, thought I would share some photos from my iphone…things I liked. Maybe they will motivate you to do something new at your house or office.

September 14th, 2010

Such a pretty day today! It is September and I am remembering a wedding we did a few years ago (3 to be exact) where I really for the first time questioned my reasoning for doing this job (wedding designer, if you didn’t know!)!

I had just had my first baby, he was only about 6 weeks old and it rained the entire week prior to wedding day AND poured on the wedding day..
It was tuff…between 2 days of no sleep due to wedding work, new baby and feeding….wow, it was hard.
But, when you see the pictures, I love that my bride and groom were happy and to this day, are happy!  That is why is still come to work every day!
Happy Anniversary Sallie Gray and Jason Clayton! Memories……

Easter Wedding

I wanted to finally share images from a small second wedding we did over Easter weekend this year at the William Aiken HouseGayle Brooker was on hand to shoot all of the details for us.

nagle-1
We love that the bride took the walk alone to meet her groom. She had a small group of guests, so it was fun to set up a different ceremony site- one that we did for a photo shoot many years ago.

nagle-2
The bride wanted to incorporate trees into the decor- each table was named after a variety found in South Carolina. We didn’t want it to seem to dark and fallish, so we brought in brighter shades of green to offset the brown, and used other natural spring elements like grass.

nagle-3
Patrick Properties chef Nico Romo used only seasonal ingredients for their menu. Most of the guests were from New York and Virginia, so South Carolina quail was a special treat.

nagle-4
The weather was perfect for a lounge on the lawn with our Easter colors; the bar was housed under a custom tent with barstools that offered guests a break from the dance floor; the simple and sophisticated dining room

nagle5
The children had their own table out on the veranda with fun wrought iron garden chairs; we did baskets that were delivered to each hotel room early Easter morning with beautiful cookies, candies, and a Sunday Times for the adults.

Tara’s Tidbits- September 13th, 2010

Hello everyone in cyberspace!! (I feel like we are living the life of the jetson’s..dont you? Just missing being able to fly…!)
Whew…
so glad weekend over…my children are cute, but BAD! Coming to work has never been so easy.

All Things Design

I have decided this weekend that I really don’t like bubble gum pink. Funny. lavender has been growing more and more on me lately and I can remember as a child always rearranging my bedroom on a weekly basis..and HAVING to paint it lavender!  I was probably in 6th or 7th grade.
I also remember my favorite 8th outfit being lavender chino shorts with a white shirt that had ESPIRT written in lavender with my matching lavender tretorns.
Good grief. How embarrassing.

We all have those women we are in awe of…and one of the most admirable women ever, to me, is Carolina Herrera. I never tire of her endless style.
She was married in September, in the year I was born (1968).
I especially love the fashion of the 70’s and the photography of her then…so I share some inspirational photos….really, just something to be jealous of….

Entertaining

See our Charleston office…just in. Traditional Home, October 2010 issue.
We love designing!
We also are so proud of our company, the lettered olive (www.theletteredolive.com)..they even include one on our collections.

I hate that I don’t have my glasses on, but otherwise we are happy about the spread. Even the office needs to be ready to entertain…seats for our guests, tea for our clients, and an atmosphere to soothe. Everyone always needs to be comfortable.
Let us know what you think!
