Just a little sneak peek from our June rehearsal dinner… can’t wait to have wedding photos for you soon!

the colors were fresh crisp green and cobalt, which were so fun and unexpected for this time of year, but worked!  The Groom is an avid photographer and in law school, so Ashley Bakery combined those two personalities into one cake!  The Groom’s grandfather hand needlepointed monogrammed kneelers for their ceremony.

The menus and place cards were combined into a fun piece called Cootie Catchers (you know the game that tells you who you will marry, where you will live, etc. from your school days)… they were a huge hit- not so easy on the design/layout end but loved the final result. How About?

Here are all of the new neats and treats we’re loving for the upcoming fall wedding season:

handmade marshmallows as treats, favors, or just a little sweet at the end of dinner- they are the new “cupcakes”.  These are from Levity Gourmet via luxist.com

“Girls Gone Mild” at their bachelorette parties- we had a bride recently who went to a local pet shelter to play with the animals, then went to a dance lesson with her girls, and finished the evening at a cooking class where they dined on the meal they prepared afterwards… love it!

A “Beer Bar” rehearsal dinner…great bubbles, wine tastings, and speciality cocktails have been long time staples at weddings. Why not have fun and mix it up at the casual party the night before and select several of your favorite Local or Craft Brews and offer a sampling to guests. Here are some suggestions from New York Weddings. You can of course have fun with custom labels!

Let the groomsmen have a personality… If bridesmaids get to pick dresses in varying colors or necklines, why not the groomsmen?  Especially when you can get these amazing bow ties from Forage via The Curiosity Shop.

Insider Trading

I’m so excited for the new Wall Street movie to come out (October 24th), as the first is one of my all time favorites!  This recent article from Conde Nast Traveler breaks it down by what defined the persona of in the new Wall Streeters then and now…

Well, we are just back from a very quick jaunt to New York for Market… there were some treasures and not so much.  Didn’t see a ton of new stuff, but here’s a sampling of just a few of our faves.  Oh, we only made it to the Pier too, so there could have been some treasures at the Javits that we just didn’t see.

robert-ogden-light

this one of a kind light from Robert Ogden/Peddlers is amahhhzing… wish I had a spot for it, the photo does no justice… the mirrored inside over a dining room table lit with candles would be a statement piece for sure

flash-cards

I just adore these vintage alphabet flash cards… Tara and I were brainstorming all sorts of ways to incorporate them into a wedding design

very festive but still sophisitcated pillows- the linen they were made from was so incredibly soft

I love the eerie starkness of this light, but could also see several of them hung under a large portico

You start to see a similar design element through many of the booths as you wander. Last year it was Angel Wings (some w/ a hard edge, some still celestial), but this year it was old book or newpaper pages, torn and then reformed into new shapes.  Very cool, and could definitely inspire some creative wedding ideas- do a sense a new version of the “paper” flowers and designs that we’ve been seeing the past few years?

Ceci Style

What a great example of design collaboration.  Our bride, Carter Samis used Ceci New York to design her wedding invitations for her November 2009 wedding. Ceci’s new online magazine, Ceci Style is featuring a story on how the printed items can influence all different elements of the wedding design and vice versa as well as a Q&A with Tara Guerard.  And, Ceci will be a speaker at this year’s Engage 10 at the Breakers.  You can see the feature here.

Tara’s Tidbits

My family and I try to spend some time every summer up in Flat Rock, North Carolina where we have a home. There are so many great local street fairs and markets that display the talents of local artisans. I found a ceramic artist several years ago who I bought a couple of pieces from to have at home in Charleston. Recently, she’s been getting a lot of attention for her amazing pottery and ceramic work, so I wanted to share her stuff!

Beauty With An Edge

I loved seeing in my new Lucky Magazine a write up about a new bridal salon, Lovely, in New York featuring hard edged details with the frilly girliness of most bridal attire. I plan on sticking my head in next week when we’re in New York to get the full experience.
